Dennis Clark has wasted no time in creating fresh ideas after beginning his new post as artistic director of the Ritz Theatre for the Tennessee Valley Art Association.

Clark’s first brainchild is a Christmas production titled The Most Wonderful Time: A Holiday Cabaret.

“Because a cabaret is a series of songs tied together with a theme, I was able to audition performers and create a show around their vocal strengths and talents,” Clark said. “It’s going to be an wonderful night filled with all types of holiday music and fun.”

The Most Wonderful Time will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Dec. 21 and 22 at the Ritz Studio, right of the Ritz Theatre, 111 W. Third St., Sheffield. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15; seating is general admission at tables and is very limited. A beer and wine bar will be serving from 7 p.m. throughout the performance, which will end around 8:30 p.m.

Jacob Adams, Mikayla Camp, Lauren Carpenter and Joey Wright will be the featured performers for The Most Wonderful Time, and they will be accompanied on a grand piano by Tommy Quinn.

The cabaret series will be performed in the recently renovated space next door to the Ritz Theatre’s main stage. Clark said he wanted to take advantage of the Ritz Studio’s more intimate and contemporary vibe.

“It’s such an inviting space with a very hip atmosphere, I couldn’t wait to do something fun there,” Clark said.

It is Clark’s goal to continue to develop original, thought provoking and stimulating creations, while developing an artistic home and helping this community thrive. He was chosen as the Ritz Theatre’s artistic director by a search committee including David Hope, who had Clark co-direct with him in the recent production of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” at the Ritz Theatre.

Clark is a New York native who received a BA from the State University of New York at Geneseo in Music – Vocal Performance, Musical Theatre and Communications. After college Clark has worked in theatre and theatre education in New York, Florida, Massachusetts and California among others.

As a performer, Clark has been involved with the creation of world premier musicals and original cast productions and performed, directed and choreographed all over the U.S. for regional theaters, touring productions, outdoor amphitheaters and various other venues.
